The VERIFIED project is a collaborative project between Dutch companies and research labs/universities, including NXP, TNO and TUE, aiming to develop drive-by-wire technology based on the Flexray standard. The project is funded by the Ministry of Economic Affairs through the High Tech Automotive Systems programme. Drive-by-wire technology aims to replace mechanical and hydraulic control systems with electronic control systems using electromechanical actuators and human-machine interfaces (HMI) such as pedal and steering feel emulators. The aim of the HMI subproject, headed by the Department of Industrial Design is to conduct research on and develop a steer-by-wire interface, as a demonstration case for the feasibility of the Flexray technology. In particular, the aim is to investigate how the technology influences the information transfer to the driver, to develop user requirements for technology development and to design the human-machine interface. The project involves both running experiments in the area of haptic interfaces and building a prototype haptic interface.
