Valid for students who enter bachelor programme on 1 september 2012 and later
The TU/e is introducing in 2012 a common structure for all bachelor programs of the TU/e. One of the main objectives is to offer sufficiently varied choices for students, to allow them to combine elements of educational programs from different faculties and to chart their own path of development within the TU/e.
A common structure has been agreed for all bachelor programs of the TU/e, which distinguishes between the following components of a bachelor course.
1. Major specific learning activities, corresponds to assignments, projects, internship/exchange and self-directed learning as mentioned above.

• for an overview of assignments, click here
2. Common Basic Courses that are taken by all students of the bachelor college.

3. Elective Courses: optional courses of the BC that are offered to all students of the BC.
• for an overview of the Elective Courses click here
4. User-Society-Enterprise (USE) elective packages. Packages (leerlijnen) of 3 parts that are offered to all students of the BC.
• for an overview of the USE Elective Packages, click here

ID students are advised to follow basic courses offered by the bachelor college early in their studies. Further, to make full use of the opportunities for internship/exchange and to take their final project without delay. Basic and USE component electives should be taken by the end of the second year.
The Bachelor Program comprises a Propedeutic examination (after year 1) and is concluded with the Bachelor's Examination.

Schedule of learning activities
The department of Industrial Design does not impose a strict schedule of courses that have to be followed per semester block or in any particular sequence, thus encouraging students to engage in learning activities in a way and a time that fits their own learning needs and personal development plan. There are, however, some constraints on the constitution of each semester block which are shown in a model year schedule in table 1.
The model year schedule in table 1 indicates the relative effort students are expected to expend on different kinds of learning activities (projects, assignments, basic and elective courses, internships, self-directed learning) per semester. Each semester comprises two quartiles; however, assessment follows only the second of these, at the end of the semester. After the first quartile of a semester, two weeks of self-directed learning are scheduled. Students taking the ID Major can engage in SDL activites and have the opportunity to reflect on their development. ID students following basic and elective courses in other faculties that schedule examinations, have the opportunity to sit relevant exams in these weeks.
Projects can occupy from 3 to 4 slots and can span across two quartiles within a semester. The exact scheduling (i.e. in quartile 1 or quartile 2) of assignments and projects within each semester block is flexible, as long as the total distribution of effort of learning activities is consistent with that foreseen for the block in this schedule (i.e. total number of assignment slots and proejct slots per semester should be adhered to). The choice of which assignments and projects to do is flexible. The department will provide an appropriately varied and targeted set of projects and assignments to support the educational aims.
Table 1. Schedule of the bachelor's program at ID, indicating the 36 slots that can be filled in by Assignments (A); Basic courses, alias Generic Engineering Learning Activities (G), USE Component Elective Courses (U), other Elective Courses (E) and Projects (P), as well as the weeks dedicated to self-directed learning and assessment activities. Students can tailor the exact scheduling within a semester block to meet scheduling constraints and personal development goals, as long as the total requirement for project and assignment effort is fulfilled for each semester.

Due to changes in the programme, students who are finding difficulties when scheduling their curricular learning activities for a particular Block can contact the study advisor for a tailor made solution. After consulting the Study advisor the student needs to put a request to the Board of Examiners.
